On 27th of October, 1919 the first ever moving picture produced in Korea were screened in Seoul – this date is considered to be the birthday of Korean cinema. In celebration of the centenary of Korean cinema the Film Studies Department of ELTE University hosts an international symposium on 30th of October, 2019. It is a side event of the 12thKorean Film Festival and co-organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Budapest.
At the symposium foreign and Hungarian scholars of Korean cinema hold talks, and an archivist from the Korean Film Archive speaks about the activities of the archive. The event closes with a round table discussion about the role of film archives in keeping alive the film heritage.
