MIDPOINT Training the Trainers Workshop
A Project-based Script Development Programme
November 25 – December 1, 2015, Lodz, Poland
Applications deadline: October 15, 2015
We are looking for:
· Screenwriters and producers with feature film or television drama projects for development. Projects can be at outline stage or draft, as long as further development is needed. For each project, the attendance of the writer is necessary; other members of the creative team, e.g. producer, script editor or director, are invited to attend. Writers can also apply with projects alone.
· Professionals whose work includes training and developing screenwriters, e.g. lecturers and assistant lecturers at film schools and script consultants.
· Professionals whose work includes evaluating screenplays and providing reports and feedback to writers, producers, funders and other parties. This includes creative producers, commissioning editors, agents and those who evaluate scripts at film funds.
The basic concept of the workshop
The programme exists to give advanced skills in working with screenplays and writers to professionals. Over the course of the workshop the six screenwriters will attend development sessions on their works-in-progress which will provide examples and experience for the trainers.
All participants will attend lectures and master classes delivered by the two tutors – Martin Daniel and Mary Kate O Flanagan.
Participants
This workshop is addressed to the following participants:
Trainers Group A – experienced screenwriting teachers and script consultants (4 people). These people will read all projects and each will run one development session with a writer, guided and prepared by the tutors.
Trainers Group B – creative producers, film fund professionals, agents and commissioning editors (8 people). These people will read all projects and will participate in briefing sessions before and after the development sessions.
Screenwriters Group C – Screenwriters with their projects / accompanied by directors, script editors or producers if possible (6 projects, max. 2 people per project). These people will read all projects and will participate in each development session.
All participants attend lectures and tutorials. Please note it is a full schedule so you need to be able to clear your diary for the duration of the workshop.

· Cover letter, stating why you think you will benefit from a training programme
Screenwriters group:
· Synopsis of your story
· Outline of your story, between 5 & 10 pages long (The outline should contain just the main events of your story and be written in the present tense, as a screenplay is. Please don’t include dialogue, dramatis personae, sample scenes or notes on your vision for the film in your outline.)
· CV including your education and experience in screenwriting or writing for other media
· CV of a member of your creative team who will attend with the writer (if applicable)
· Cover letter, stating why you think you will benefit from a training programme

Fees
· Trainers Group A: EUR 250
· Trainers Group B: EUR 300
· Participants with Projects: EUR 250 per project
· The fee includes accommodation, board and tuition. (Please note that if two participants will be attending with a project, the second team member will be asked to cover his/her accommodation costs or share a room with the writer.)
· Travel costs are NOT included.
Plans and dates

– The workshop is planned for 5 days. The dates are November 26 – 30, 2015 (arrival on November 25 and departure on December 1)
The workshop will take place at the Lodz Film School in Lodz, Poland.

About Training the Trainers:
The Training the Trainers workshop is for teachers of screen writing, script consultants, screenwriters and other professionals involved into script development process. The workshop is designed to enhance skills in story development. This 5-days workshop is designed to give all the participants practical skills for their part of the script development process.
The workshop language is English.

About Midpoint:
MIDPOINT is an international script development training programme for graduating students and film professionals. It was conceived at FAMU Prague in 2010 with the aim of strengthening creative collaboration between writer, director and producer in the development process. MIDPOINT has grown into a platform that provides several types of workshops designed to cover the area of film and TV dramaturgy. One of them is Training the Trainers workshop. In 2015 Training the Trainers is organized by the Lodz Film School with the financial support of The Polish Film Institute and MIDPOINT/FAMU Prague.
Tutors:
Training the Trainers workshop since its beginning has been conducted by two experienced story consultants and screenwriting teachers Martin Daniel and Mary Kate O’Flanagan

Pavel Jech is a screenwriter, screenwriting teacher, Dean of FAMU and MIDPOINT Head of Studies. Official presentation of the Training the Trainers Workshop will follow after the master class.
